The exchange rates used in this app are rounded to the smallest unit of the currency and they’re updated periodically. You should know that exchange rates fluctuate and also vary depending on which bank you go to and how high the spread is. So this isn’t a 100% accurate currency converter but it’s more than accurate enough for what we’re doing here.
In some places you will notice that two currencies are listed even though only one number is returned. When this is the case, those currencies are at par with each other so they have the same value relative to the dollar. It might seem silly, but often this is just another edition of bank notes rather than a completely new currency.
It is also quite shocking to note just how low some of the currencies are valued. In some places, carrying a briefcase full of banknotes means that the briefcase is worth more than the money inside which could make gangster movies interesting. So you’d be well advised not to see this as a tourist destination finder for extra cheap holidays. Though in some places, you could very well benefit from a low currency as a tourist but that isn’t always the case.
I should also point out at that, while fun, you should not take this to heart and think that being a millionaire in Zambia would mean you could lead a luxurious and extravagant life there living in a palace and being driven around in a stretch limousine. No amount of money can buy you something that isn’t there. That is often why the currencies become so low in value. You cannot eat money.
